I have never personally been sure about tribute acts as I feel they will be underwhelming, however both the AC/DC and Thin Lizzy acts (Live Wire and Limehouse Lizzy) were impressive!
I was lucky enough to see AC/DC live in 2016 and was completely blown away, hence I was even more uncertain about seeing a tribute act! However, Live Wire were incredible! The act featured tributes of both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, both of whom closely resembled those they were portraying even nailing mannerisms. The same goes especially for the Angus Young tribute who acted as him perfectly in a way in which I forgot I was seeing a tribute act! All members of the tribute acts were incredibly talented and friendly to the audience despite being a small venue.
I hate to say it, but I know very little about Thin Lizzy but even then the tribute Limehouse Lizzy were very impressive and I found their performance thoroughly enjoyable. However, I can’t really comment on mannerisms or acting as the original act as I know so little! However, the staging of the venue was incredible considering its size with great lighting and effects especially the working cannons for Live Wire!
Seeing both acts has really changed my perspective of how good tribute performances can actually be, so i would highly recommend them to anyone who is unsure!
Here are some further details about both acts according to the Apex’s official page:
“Live/Wire… The AC/DC Show
The unique six man tribute to rock’s greatest band, AC/DC, complete with trademark cannons, a wall of Marshalls, and the power of high voltage rock and roll.
And in this, AC/DC’s fortieth year, the band cover both eras, to take you on a rock night to remember. You’ll be slap bang in the middle of the show with hits such as ‘Back in Black’, ‘Rosie’and ‘Highway to Hell’. The songs go on until the cannons fire ceremoniously, to bring the evening to a superb crescendo – if by this time you are still standing, we salute you!
From PRS Official awards, performing for Virgin Atlantic in Barbados, and TV appearances, to actually being recruited to record and tour by members of the original Thin Lizzy, Limehouse Lizzy, enter their 21st year with their most explosive show and critically-acclaimed line-up yet.
Despite international tours, corporate clients, and even book appearances, they’ve shoehorned this, their third co-headline tour, with tribute giants Live/Wire, into their usual exhausting year-round schedule. The boys are back!”
